Target Runs

We're sure that every girl can testify that when on a Target run, you never know what you might find, how much money you'll spend, or what unnecessary item you will walk out with. You also never know who you will talk to or even what will make someones night. Everybody also knows that you go to target looking like a hot mess... or is that just us?

Because our lives our filled with dorky moments, a random and "quick" trip to Target was not possible for us. A guy randomly approached us as we were browsing all the cute clothes. He said he was new in town and wanted to know what we did for fun. I ( Dez) said "sleep"( haha), which is a LIE because if you know me, you know that I am always on the go. We listed some of our fav things to do in the city like salsa dancing or hanging out at cute rooftops downtown. We also shared with him about young adult events that we have at our churches. He was fascinated and seemed surprised that we mentioned socializing in a church setting. He thanked us for giving him our time, and then departed.

We walked away feeling like rockstars because of the friendly advice we were able to give this stranger. We quickly realized that we should have gotten his number (would've asked for his insta handle, but he said he didn't have one), because let's be real, nobody wants to go to these events alone. So we sprinted through the store in search of him, and once we located our new friend walking out, Yazzy, being the person she is (LOL), hollers, "Give us your number!" In an instant, the cashiers froze and leaned in amusement to hear what would happen next. I'm sure they thought Yazzy was hitting on this stranger, like any normal bystander would think, but it was the exact opposite.

It was simply a young person who was new to the metroplex in need of friends, community, and a place to belong. We thought it was awesome that he had the boldness to come and ask, and of course, we were thrilled to share where and how he could get plugged into a group of people. This really encouraged us, and it reminded us of that feeling we first had when we moved away from home to a new place. Being in a new city and starting over is hard and uncomfortable, and feeling like you always have to go out of your way to make things happen is exhausting. However, we want to tell you today that you are not alone. All of us have been "the new kid" at some point, and trust us when we say, it will get better.

Don't give up! You will find a place that you belong, a new community of amazing people, and friends who will encourage you in your walk of life. Ask God for a place, a community, and people that are not only going to make you feel invited and included, but most importantly, a place where you know He is planting you for this season of your life. Take the risk and go to an event by yourself, approach new people, and put yourself out there. You will never see any results if you do not take action, you never know who you just might meet.

Why is it so important? Because who you are becoming, rather than what you are doing, is what defines you, and a healthy community is crucial to this process. It is so important because of the way that individuals help you grow, build your character, and create a support system for you, especially if you are far from family.

SO here are a few places you can check out if you are seeking a new community, and we would love to have you come along with us for an event!
